Looking back over the past decade, China FAW has actively responded to the “Belt and Road” initiative, rapidly expanding its presence in overseas markets and deepening international capacity cooperation. Em 2014, in partnership with the China-Africa Fund, China FAW constructed a large-scale localized production factory in the Coega Development Zone of Nelson Mandela Bay, África do Sul, marking the beginning of China FAW’s journey of deep localization in the South African market.
China FAW South Africa’s Coega factory covers an area of 87,000 square meters with a total construction area of 30,000 square meters. It includes assembly workshops, specialized vehicle workshops, quality inspection areas, office buildings, showrooms, training centers, and finished vehicle parking lots. This factory not only represents China FAW’s first self-operated overseas facility but was also one of the largest, most advanced, and well-managed medium and heavy-duty truck assembly plants in Africa at the time.
Simultaneously, China FAW established a comprehensive commercial vehicle sales and service network alongside its capacity cooperation efforts. To date, we have established three company-owned 4S dealerships, 26 franchise 4S dealerships, and partnered with three franchise service providers, providing coverage to major South African cities and key transportation routes, extending our reach to surrounding markets including Zambia, Zimbábue, Moçambique, and others.
Since 2014, China FAW South Africa has adhered to its core principle of independent technology and the business philosophy of “rooted in the local market, customer-centric.” Supported by the factory’s production capacity and sales service network, our production and sales have steadily increased. As of the first half of this year, our cumulative sales have exceeded 15,000 veículos, with our overall market share in the South African commercial vehicle market ranking among the top players. We maintain a leading position in various segments, including 3-ton, 5-ton, and 8-ton manual transmission trucks. Over the years, China FAW has evolved from a newcomer in the South African market to a trusted market leader.
China FAW has also been committed to promoting employment and talent development. We continuously explore methods to enhance the work capabilities and professional qualities of our local employees, offering various professional and technical training programs that have benefited over 2,000 individuals. As the team’s overall capabilities continue to improve, we have been steadily increasing the number and level of management positions for our local employees, encouraging both local and foreign employees to leverage their respective strengths in a collaborative effort. To date, we have created approximately 850 direct employment positions and over 3,000 indirect employment opportunities. China FAW’s initiatives have nurtured a talented pool of individuals proficient in automobile production technology, marketing capabilities, and business management skills.
Over the past decade, while adhering to local customs and regulations, China FAW has gained wide acclaim from South African partners, local governments, and the people by promoting localized procurement and management. We have deepened our ties with local society and shared in their well-being. China FAW South Africa has twice been awarded the “Nelson Mandela Bay Top 50 Enterprises” title and achieved first place in the “NADA Annual Dealer Satisfaction Silver Award.” Our products and services have continued to gain recognition and popularity in the local market. Several local officials, including the South African Minister of Trade and Industry and the Mayor of Mandela Bay, have highly praised China FAW South Africa’s localized operations, considering it a model of China-Africa cooperation.
Looking ahead, China FAW will continue to pursue its goal of becoming a world-class automobile enterprise. We will accelerate our expansion in overseas markets, continually improve our global automotive industry supply chain layout, and focus on building an integrated overseas business operation system. We are committed to contributing to the industrial advancement, economic prosperity, and well-being of the people in South Africa while playing our part in advancing the “Belt and Road” initiative and the construction of the “China-Africa Community of Shared Destiny.”
